I jumped on Threads 15 months ago with 0 followers. I crossed 17,000 followers yesterday. 5 unorthodox “hacks” that got me there. 1. Mobile First61.5% of global internet traffic comes from mobile devices. Big blocks of text is 🤮 I use one sentence paragraphs for easy reading (like I do in my emails) White space is a GOOD thing when publishing content on on social. TIP: Use the space bar more 2. Create a StaircaseBuild anticipation with your words. I start with a short sentence. The next sentence is a bit longer. The third sentence is longer than the last. I’m doing it right now with the 3 above sentences 😜 Example 👇
3. Hook ’emYour 1st sentence is 80% of the success of your post. We call them “hooks”. Use hooks that lead with: Vulnerability, curiosity, pain, controversy, humor or credibility) Example: Leading with humor 👇
4. Create Mind MoviesOne of the biggest mistakes I see with writing online. Lack of specificity. A mentor once said to me: “Specificity spits out cash” A “silly” test I like to run my content through. “Can I draw a picture of it?” If I cannot draw a picture, it’s not specific enough. Back to the drawing board. Pun intended 😜 Example:
BAD: “I want to lose weight” Too vague. If your reader has to think, you’ve lost them. Here’s a better example: GOOD: “Do you get winded after wresting with your kids on the living room floor after a few minutes?” Paint the picture for your audience. 5. Use Analogies/MetaphorsExamples I use: Instead of saying, “Make more money” I say: “Stuff your piggybanks with more of the green stuff” Instead of saying, “That’s hard/difficult” I say, “It’s like folding a fitted bedsheet” It makes it fun. It makes it different. People remember different. These are 5 writing “hacks” I’ve used, not just on Threads, but all platforms, including email. Threads OS™ drops on Monday.
