8:42

I hit the pool again this afternoon.

I started swimming on May 26th. I haven’t missed a day.

I swim 14 laps (each lap is 25 yards).

I’d swim 2 laps (roughly 1 minute) and take a 1 minute break.

I’ve improvd, so now I swim 4 laps at a time. And take maybe a 30 second break.

It used to take me about 13 minutes to finish.

A couple weeks ago I started timing myself. First real number I clocked was 9:08. I couldn’t beat it. I’d come close, and miss it by 3 seconds, miss it by 10, miss it by a lot. I started to wonder if 9:08 was just my ceiling.

Thursday I did it in 8:56.

On Saturday, 8:46.

Today, I did it in 8:42.

It’s gonna take some time to beat that, as I felt like I was moving today.

Swimming is me vs. me. I ain’t racing anyone, just the clock.

Same game we play online. you ain’t racing the dude showing off $50k months. His month one might have been 4 years ago. Or 13 years ago. he might have an expensive team. You’re just trying to be better than last month (it doesn’t have to be more money, either).

The death trap is comparing your journey to someone else’s. Comparisonitis will have you feeling behind in a race nobody invited you to.

You’re not behind.

My 13 minutes times. My 10 minute times. My 8 minutes times all count. They’re all “done beats perfect” in a Speedo 😜

The version of you who shows up daily and finishes slow will always beat the version of who’s waiting to go fast before starting.

I’ll jump in the pool with the goal to beat 8:42. I might and I might not beat it. Either way, I’m getting in the water.

YOU GOT THIS 🙌

In your corner,
Adam
