Why ads aren’t the “cheat code” you think they are

If you’re thinking about running ads, know these 4 things…

Ads are not the “cheat code” many assume they are.

A Creators asked on Threads about running ads.

Here are 4 tips I shared with her (after spending mid 5 figures last year)…

  • Test a TON of ads. Usually, you’ll find 1 winning ad for every 10 ads you test. When starting out, it might be 1 out of 20. It’s a game of testing a F ton of creatives. Most test 2 or 3, then claim ads don’t work.
  • The real $$$ is made in the backend. Backend = Selling your customers more things in your email follow up. The goal with ads is to break even, as you’re getting customers for free. Studies show it’s 5x – 12x easier to sell to a current customer over a new prospect.
  • Use heaps of social proof. These people have no clue who TF you are, so social proof is going to help sell them on your offer/method.
  • Track your numbers. Maybe not like OCD-me, but you want to track your numbers and monitor them. Make decisions based off data, NOT emotion.

Ads are an emotional rollercoaster. You can’t look at your numbers day-to-day, or you’ll drive yourself shit bat crazy. Look at you weekly, or monthly numbers.

I lose money 2-4x per month on ads. It’s usually $20 – $200, but it does happen. I know people who spend $5,000/day and they experience the same, whether they admit it or not on social, is a whole other story.

Ads can be a lot of fun.

20-25 customers a day is a pretty cool feeling, I ain’t gonna lie. However, there’s a point where you feel a bit too dependent on the ads platform, and that can mess with your head. Sometimes, I feel a “slave” to the ads platform.

Then again, if you’re doing organic, you get the same feeling.

Ads can be a lot of fun, but I want to set realistic expectations before you go blowing your budget with Zuckerberg and company.

This Creator replied to my comment about how she doesn’t email her people. If I were her, I would NOT run ads, until she can consistently email her people. Like I said in point 2 above, the real money is made on the backend, not the initial sale.
