I got my 1st date tonight! Part nervous. Part excited. Might even splash on some of the good cologne. It’s month 2 of the Solo Dad era…and tonight is a big night. I’m taking my 12-year old daughter to dinner. Just Ava & I. She hasn’t confirmed the location, as she shared several ideas with me the other day when we talked about it. It could be tacos, sushi (I’m not a fan, she lives it), or some place that serves dessert first. This is something I’ve wanted to do with the kids consistently over the years. Have done it here and there, but not enough. Life. Business. Excuses. Separation. So I’m establishing a new household rule of the House of Dukes… Monthly one-on-one dinner dates with each of the kids. Ava this week. I’ll take Ashton in 2 weeks. Rinse and repeat. I’ve learned (the HARD way) that if you don’t schedule it, it ain’t gonna happen. Same goes for everything that actually matters. Your health, relationships, kids, etc. The world will fill up your calendar with something “urgent”. Something that “has to happen”. Some “can’t miss” thing. And before you know it. your daughter is graduated and moving away to college (I’m not too sure what college will look like in 6ish years) Most Creators I speak with say they’re building for more family time. Yet, every hour away feels like they’re falling behind, or missing out on something. That’s the Hustle Hamster trap. I been there. I ain’t like it one damn bit, either. I didn’t build the 3 Hour Creator to scale, scale, SCALE!!! I built it so I could spray on some Jean Paul (I’ve yet to find a better cologne in my life) on a Wednesday night and enjoy overpriced tacos with my daughter without worrying about business.
