Today is “Take Your Kid to Work Day.” Or as I like to call it… “Light Your Productivity On Fire Day & Pray You Can Get One Thing Done Day” My daughter had a test this morning, so she went to school. My son? he dropped 70-11 hints last night and this morning about it. I did the responsible thing and put the ball in his court. He chose school. Then on the drive to school I asked him one last time. He chose home. I’ve been trying to work in my spare bedroom, while he watches some TV. Feeling like a shitbag working, as the Dad guilt is strong when they stay home from school (for whatever reason). “I should find somethnig for the 2 of us to do…” “I should be more present….” “I should try to include him in some of the stuff I’m doing…” It’s a delicate balance. Us parents are trying to build something while being there for the people we’re building it for. This week’s been a bit of a dumpster fire. I’ve been running around town car shopping for the last 2 days. Today was a curveball. Here’s the lesson I keep coming back to… Life doesn’t care about your perfectly planned work schedule. Kids get sick. They change their mind on the way TO school. Car shopping eats 2 days of your life. Shit happens. If your business only works when everything goes perfectly… You is in big trouble, because nothing in the history of ever, goes as planned.
