My grandma was right about me… until she wasn’t

Easter Sunday. 2019.

The kids were with their Mom.

I was alone. Hungover. Again.

I was miserable the kids were doing Easter without me.

So what did I do?

I went in the backyard, and started trimming the bushes (honestly).

As I was trimming away I had this thought…

“Maybe I can go 30 days without booze”.

Something I had attempted 238x in the past. And always failed miserably.

My grandma used to say, “That boy has a lot of quit in him.”

She wasn’t wrong.

I didn’t trust myself. At all.

I definitely didn’t think “30 days sober” was something my future self would ever brag about.

This time felt different, though.

Maybe it was shame.

Maybe it was the kids were getting older.

Maybe I was tired of waking up in the bushes with no pants on 😜

So I started.

I kept the idea to myself. I didn’t want to embarrass myself when I fell off the wagon on day 9.

The first 2 weeks were brutal. Constant cravings. fear of failing…again.

I hit 30 days.

Then I thought, “Maybe I could go 40 days”.

Got to 40, then 50, then 100.

I haven’t had a drink since.

Here’s what no one tells you about breaking an old pattern:

And that mentality changed my parenting, my confidence, my business, my entire identity.
