I’m not much of a TV guy.
However….
Yellowstone is on my “Mount Rushmore” of greatest TV shows of all time.
Alongside Entourage, Ozark, Dexter and The Office.
Season 5 of Yellowstone kicked off a week and a half ago.
After nearly 2 year hiatus.
The ranch drama, the power struggles, Beth and the unshakable loyalty of my favorite character, Rip. It’s pure Television gold.
John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) is the main character.
Sadly, he’s not in this season (contract disputes, I guess).
John Dutton is laser focused on one goal: Protecting his ranch, that’s been in his family for 3 generations. He’s willing to do damn near anything to keep his legacy alive.
He overcomes challenge after challenge, and obstacle after obstacle.
It’s a lot like what we handle online. The constant challenges of self-doubt, imposter syndrome and comparing ourselves to others.
The lesson is this: You’ve got to protect your “ranch”. Define your non-negotiables.
- What are the things you stand for/against?
- What are your daily/weekly non-negoitables?
- Is it your daily commitment to showing up for your community?
- Is it only working x hours/day?
- Is it always having family dinners (one of mine)?
Decisions get easier when you know what you’re protecting (and working towards).
Ask yourself: What is my “ranch”? What am I doing to protect it?
No one else can answer this question for you.
It’s not gonna be found it the latest course.
You have to determine this.
And set some non-neogitables.
