What I told her to ignore

I had a client reach out to me yesterday.

We started working together last fall.

Life lifed HARD for her in October.

She had to step away to grieve and breathe.

I got a Volley message from her yesterday (a messaging app I use for my private clients).

She was ready to get back to it, and asked for a plan of attack.

She’s got a Print on Demand store in a cool niche.

We discussed a custom GPT last fall, and she asked about moving forward with that.

She’s got an idea for a course and a case study, too.

I told her to focus on the custom GPT. Nothing else. Get it built, live, and go sell it like rent is due tomorrow. I don’t care the price, and it ain’t gonna be perfect EVER (accept this). A “customer first” approach gives you momentum. I find momentum and confidence are like Siamese twins.

Entrepreneurship is a game of confidence.

Then I told her something that probably sounded bass ackwards.

Reach out to every customer of the GPT and ask for honest feedback. Ask about their struggles with POD. Listen. Take notes. Record it with AI. Not only does this provide a fantastic customer experience (shows you care), but it’s research for the course she wants to create.

I told her not to launch the course until she sells it.

Yes, sell it BEFORE you create it. Build it live with a handful of people who take her up on the offer. She then gets paid to create her course. This lets her validate the idea before wasting 3-6 months building it. And she gets real, live feedback from customers on how she can improve the course.

None of that is gonna happen this week, though. This week’s focus is on building the custom GPT (or some mini AI tool). Then for 30ish days is all about selling the tool.

I see this often with Creators (myself included!). We think we have to have it all mapped out, and perfectly planned in our heads before getting started. The course, coaching program, lead magnet, email sequence, content calendar, podcast graphics, YouTube channel name, all mapped out and planned like a 5 year business plan.

Ditch that idea. Focus on getting one customer. Then another. Then another. And another. Rinse & repeat.

It’s the “eat an elephant one bite at a time” mentality.

So, if you’ve got 3-4 ideas swirling around in your head right now…you ain’t alone. Also, this is your permission slip to kill 3 of them today. Pick the one that has a clear path to get a customer. And put all your focus on getting that 1 customer.

YOU GOT THIS 🙌

In your corner,
Adam
