Complex City has no map

I’m typing this with Bone Thugs on the speaker (it’s the 1st of the month, duh!) I got the kids yesterday, and the first thing we did was hit Dairy Queen for these breakfast special dipped cones. I got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch one, and it was better than advertised. I then took them and their 2 friends to the pool for 3 hours yesterday (we got a gigantic pool in our neighborhood). Today is the first day of summer vacation, so a bit of an adjustment for the 3 of us. The first of the month…

I was alone on a deck in Oceanside when it started

I downloaded Threads Memorial Day weekend 2024. I remember it well. We went to Oceanside, CA for a family vacation. Amanda’s Mom rented a house right on the water. It was stunning. Here’s me on the back deck… The kids & Amanda hung out with her 23 year old son (who lives in San Diego) on the trip. I spent a lot of time sitting on the back deck overlooking the ocean. Listening to the waves crash against the rocks, people walking on the boardwalk and birds chirping. That’s when I started…

Complexity is easier to sell than discipline

The Greedy Gurus won’t say it, but I will…. You don’t need more information. You need to make more offers. Meaning, you need to sell your one offer more consistently (I recommend daily, like showering). You don’t need a better funnel, a new niche, a pivot, rebrand, better hashtags, another course, or the latest whizbang strategy. You need to sell what you already have like rent is due tomorrow. Do that today, tomorrow, and every day this week, and next week, and every day next month, and…

Bathing suit shopping with a 12-year-old is a sport

Summer vacation has begun! The kid’s last day of school was yesterday. My son graduated the 5th grade. I sat in the hard plastic bleachers and watched him (and 117 others) walk across the stage and shake the principal’s hand. The 3 of us grabbed lunch afterwards, as they had a half day. We did an early dinner (4:00 pm) with my parents, as my Mom likes to “beat the rush”. Then we went bathing suit shopping for my 12 year old daughter. If you’ve never done that before, pack your patience. My…

His kids woke up without a dad today

I’m not a NASCAR guy. But I saw the news yesterday afternoon and it stopped me cold. Kyle Busch…2 time NASCAR champion. A husband, and father of two passed away at the age of 41. He was supposed to race this Sunday. In fact, we won his race last Friday. When the reporter interviewed him last Friday after his victory, she asked….”Why do these moments never get old, Kyle” “Because you never know when the last one is” He replied. He had it all. Career numbers (234 total victories). A wife…

I write one email. Then I do this.

I write one email a day. I’ve missed one day since July 27th, and that was on March 9th, when my daughter was in the hospital. Most days it takes 15-20 minutes. But it doesn’t end there… After I hit send, I open Claude and run my email through a Claude skill I built (for long form Threads) (I’m developing a *bit* of an obsession with Claude skills. Feels like a cheat code, honestly) 30 seconds later, I’ve got a fully formatted longform thread. Same story & voice, just a different format….
